How to use
1.
Add an image by dragging it onto the page, choosing a file, or pasting from your clipboard
2.
A crop selection appears automatically. For a fixed shape, pick an Aspect ratio (Free, 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 5:4 or 16:9) and an Orientation - a portrait photo starts in Portrait, where 4:3 becomes 3:4 and 16:9 becomes 9:16
3.
Drag a corner handle to resize the selection, drag inside it to move it, or drag outside it to draw a new one. The preview under the image shows exactly what will be saved
4.

Frequently asked questions
How do I adjust the crop area?
Drag a corner handle to resize the selection. With Free selected, you can also drag the edges with a mouse or trackpad; with a fixed aspect ratio, and on touchscreens, only the corners resize. Drag from inside the selection to move it, or drag outside it to draw a new one from scratch. With a keyboard, Tab to the selection and move it with the arrow keys, or Tab on to a handle and resize with the arrow keys; hold Shift for bigger steps.
Is the crop at full resolution?
Yes. The crop is taken from the image's original pixels, not the displayed size. The only exception is a selection larger than your browser can process - over 100 million pixels in most browsers, or about 16.7 million on iPhone and iPad - which is scaled down to fit, and the tool tells you when that happens. JPEG and WebP are saved at a high 95% quality, so a cropped JPEG can even be larger in bytes than a more heavily compressed original; the Image Compressor can shrink it afterwards.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
All cropping runs in your browser using the Canvas API. No image data is transmitted anywhere. The cropped file is re-encoded from the pixels alone, so EXIF metadata such as GPS location is not carried over.
What formats can I upload?
The tool accepts JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, AVIF and BMP files; HEIC photos open only in Safari, which can decode them. JPEG is saved as JPEG and WebP as WebP - or as PNG in Safari, which cannot save WebP. All other formats are saved as PNG, and an animated GIF, WebP or PNG keeps only its first frame - the tool warns you when that applies.
Can I crop to an exact aspect ratio?
Yes. Choose 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 5:4 or 16:9 under Aspect ratio and the selection keeps that shape while you resize it; Free lets you draw any shape. Switch Orientation to Portrait for the upright versions - 3:4, 2:3, 4:5 for Instagram portrait posts, or 9:16 for stories and reels. A portrait photo starts in Portrait.
