Frequently asked questions
What calculations does this support?
Four, each in its own panel: "What is X% of Y?", "X is what % of Y?", "Percentage change from X to Y" and "Increase / decrease X by Y%". Every field accepts decimals and negative numbers.
How is percentage change calculated?
Percentage change = ((new value − old value) / |old value|) × 100. A positive result is an increase; a negative result is a decrease. A change from 0 has no percentage, so no result is shown and a note explains why.
Is my data sent to a server?
All calculations run locally in your browser. No data is transmitted anywhere.
Can I calculate percentage discounts?
Use Increase / decrease X by Y%: enter the original price as X (base), select −, and enter the discount as Y to see the final price. To see only the amount taken off, use What is X% of Y? with the discount as X and the price as Y.
What is the difference between percentage point and percent?
A percentage point is an absolute difference (from 10% to 15% is 5 percentage points). A percent change is relative (from 10% to 15% is a 50% increase). The two are commonly confused.
