About

Markdown is a lightweight markup language that uses plain-text formatting syntax (like # for headings and ** for bold) to create structured documents. It is the standard format for README files, documentation, and content on platforms like GitHub, Stack Overflow, and many blogging systems.

How to use

  1. 1.

Type or paste Markdown into the Markdown panel

  2. 2.

Check the Preview as you type - it sits beside the editor on a wide screen, or under the Preview tab on a phone

  3. 3.

Use Copy HTML in the Preview header to copy the rendered HTML

Common uses

Frequently asked questions

Which Markdown flavor does this support?

The tool uses the marked library, which supports CommonMark and GitHub Flavored Markdown (GFM) including tables, strikethrough, and task lists.

Can I copy the rendered HTML?

The Copy HTML button copies the rendered HTML. Raw HTML in your Markdown is kept, but it is sanitized first: scripts, event handlers, forms, iframes, and inline styles are removed, and links (other than #anchors within the page) are set to open in a new tab.

Does it support syntax highlighting in code blocks?

No. Fenced code blocks render as plain monospaced text. The language you name after the opening fence is kept as a class in the HTML (```js becomes class="language-js"), so a highlighter such as Prism or highlight.js on your own site can color the copied code.

Is my text sent to a server?

All rendering runs locally in your browser using the marked library. No text is transmitted anywhere.

Can I use this to preview README files?

Yes - paste the file's contents. Standard GitHub Flavored Markdown such as tables, task lists and fenced code blocks renders, but GitHub-only extras such as :emoji: shortcodes, [!NOTE] alerts and math stay as plain text, and images or links with relative paths will not resolve.
