About

Password strength is determined primarily by length and randomness (entropy). A 16-character password using uppercase, lowercase, digits, and symbols has roughly 104 bits of entropy, making brute-force attacks computationally infeasible with current hardware.

How to use

  1. 1.

Set the Length (4 to 128) with the slider or by typing it, and tick the character sets to include

  2. 2.

A new password appears as soon as you change an option - select Regenerate for another with the same settings

  3. 3.

Check the entropy and strength rating next to the Password title, then copy the password before you leave the page

Frequently asked questions

How random are the generated passwords?

Every character is chosen with the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure random number generator, using rejection sampling to avoid modulo bias. Each ticked character set is guaranteed to appear at least once: a password missing one is discarded and drawn again from scratch, so every password that contains all the ticked sets is equally likely and no character type sits in a predictable position. (Because of that guarantee, characters from the smaller sets, such as digits, turn up slightly more often than an unrestricted draw would give them.)

Should I store this password somewhere?

Always save generated passwords in a password manager (e.g., Bitwarden, 1Password). Never store passwords in plain text files or browser bookmarks.

Is my password sent to a server?

Generation runs entirely in your browser using the Web Crypto API. No passwords are transmitted or stored anywhere.

What makes a password strong?

Length is the most important factor. A 16+ character password using a mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols is practically impossible to brute-force with current technology. The rating next to the Password title shows its entropy - the length times log2 of the number of possible characters - and a word for it: under 28 bits is Very weak, under 36 Weak, under 60 Fair, under 100 Strong, and 100 bits or more Very strong.

Can I generate multiple passwords at once?

The tool generates one password at a time. Select Regenerate repeatedly, or change an option, to get a new one each time.
