About

A QR code stores up to a few thousand characters - usually a link, but also plain text, Wi-Fi login details, contact cards and more - in a square grid of dark and light modules. Decoding it here shows that content as plain text before anything is opened, so you can check where a link really goes.

How to use

  1. 1.

Click Use camera and point it at a QR code, or choose, drop, or paste an image that contains one

  2. 2.

Copy the decoded content from the Result panel, or click Open URL if it is a web link

  3. 3.

Use Camera or Replace to scan another code

Frequently asked questions

Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot or photo?

Yes. Pick an image containing a QR code with the Choose image button, drop it onto the page, or paste a screenshot straight from your clipboard. The tool decodes the QR code directly from the image, and the Result panel says No QR code found if there is none it can read.

Does the camera scanner work on desktop?

Yes, as long as your computer has a webcam and you grant camera permission in your browser. The camera opens in a fullscreen viewfinder - keep the code inside the frame. On mobile devices, the rear camera is used by default. The camera turns off as soon as a code is found, when you close the viewfinder, or when you switch to another tab, and the frame the code was read from is shown next to the result.

What types of QR codes can this decode?

Any standard QR code, whatever it contains - URLs, plain text, Wi-Fi credentials, vCards, email addresses, phone numbers, and more. The content is shown as raw text: a Wi-Fi code, for example, reads WIFI:S:<network>;T:WPA;P:<password>;;. Only http and https links get an Open URL button. Other barcodes, such as product barcodes or Data Matrix codes, are not read.

Is my data sent to a server?

No. All scanning and decoding happens entirely in your browser. Your camera feed and uploaded images never leave your device.

What if the scanner can't detect my QR code?

Make sure the QR code is clearly visible, well-lit, and not blurry. For uploaded images, try a higher-resolution version. Inverted codes (light on a dark background) are only detected in uploaded images, not by the live camera. Damaged or partially obscured codes may not decode successfully.
